TODO — rewrite in your own voice. The notes below are scaffolding.

A road game set on Route 40, ending at the Triple Frontera between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. The player is a cargo trucker with a non-combatant profile, so conflict resolves through truco rather than weapons — the card game is the core encounter system.

design

Faction design is the central problem. The rule I work to: a faction only earns its place if it triggers a system of its own, rather than existing as flavour.

  • Motoqueros and gauchos — the same free-nomad archetype in different centuries, and the trucker’s natural antagonists
  • Los santos de la ruta — own the amulet system and the game’s relationship with death
  • Police checkpoints — own the paperwork system
  • Other truckers — own information and belonging

Atmosphere is melancholic, carried by chacarera and a diegetic radio that doubles as foreshadowing. Structural reference is Disco Elysium, with the route itself as the narrative spine.

implementation

TODO — what exists in engine so far, and what the truco encounter loop looks like in code. Link across to the Unreal truck cab demo as the vertical slice.

status

In active design. Current work is cutting scope: declaring a core loop, resolving two overlapping fuel systems that don’t produce an interesting decision, and reconciling the non-combatant protagonist with the weapons the design document still lists.
